De Bortoli Yarra Valley Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir
REGION - Yarra Valley
The Estate Vineyard at Dixons Creek. Average vine age 27 years. Clones include MV6, 667 & a small portion of the little known clone MV4. Pinot Noir is planted on the cooler sites that are typically southerly and eastern facing aspects.
Terrific Pinot Noir growing season, timely spring rain. Slow ripening, terrific flavour development, highly perfumed vintage.
Bright red colour. Red and dark fruits, wood spice and violets. Generous in character, finesse but soft in style, complex and quite alluring.
The Estate Pinot Noir is typified by perfume, structure, some whole bunch characters, a touch of savouriness and fine tannin.
The fruit was hand harvested and hand sorted. A combination of whole berry and whole bunch (10-15%) is tipped into open fermenters. 15-18 days of maceration and fermentation with wild yeast. Pressed, settled overnight and then filled to barrel by gravity. Allowed to mature for 9 months at 16°C in 225L French casks.
Alc/Vol: 13.5%, pH: 3.5, TA: 6.2g/L
The wine will continue to develop complexity and interest with good cellaring for 4-6 years.
Duck ragu with creamy polenta.
